One of my all time favourite Dinkys! I love the Guys in all their forms, you can get the two tone blue wagon with the smooth type hubs fitted as well. Always a bit confusing about whether these were in or out of the Supertoys range too!

My only Guy lorries below (except for the two vans that I have):

The 4-Ton Lorry shown on the left has the ridged 'Dinky Toys hubs', so fairly old, ca. 1950-1952. Still I prefer the first versions with the contrasting coloured front wings (and numerous colours). Obviously many enthusiasts do so, as they are hardly affordable in excellent condition ...

Here is my Guy 4-Ton Lorry, also in blue, with the later Supertoys wheels. I would guess this is from about 1955-1956, as I bought this new shortly after that. I have always really liked this particular Guy truck...a very nice model! And Jan, I agree with you on the older ones with the accent color front wings or fenders. There is one listed for sale recently that is all yellow, with black wings, that looks just great.

The quote - mine - above is only one week and two days old. And it is contradicted by practice now already, as I bought the one below in the mean time, and at a - relatively - affordable price. It was sold by a shop which wasn't specializing in Dinky Toys at all, but had this almost mint one (without box) in their stock as an exception. It is the fiercely wanted first edition of the Guy 4-Ton Lorry, and it arrived today.
As an added illustration the trio which was offered from the second half of 1947 on, and shown far below in the Meccano Magazine of March 1948.

Jan--Wonderful find, and not even in a Dinky shop! It is amazing where these little toys turn up, and one can be pleasantly surprised by a good deal, as you were. It appears to be in very nice condition, so a very good score once again...congrats!

Here is a half-tone original Dinky/Meccano publicity illustration I acquired many years ago of the first Dinky Supertoys:

The fascinating thing about this is the pricing.

The Guy Lorry was originally 7/6 but on this publicity image it is priced at 14/- which is almost twice as much. The same differential occurs for the Flying Boat and the Foden.

A lot of Commonwealth countries used Sterling currency and I would love to know where this image was used.

I don't think Australia or New Zealand were that far apart from England so I wonder if this was one of the African countries.

Dave, 14/- is VERY expensive as you say, to be honest I image 7/- was pretty much out of the range of most lads in the 40's, I was on 3d a day pocket money in the 60's, so 10 bob was strictly Birthday time!

Here is a near mint (not chips just light reflection in photo) Guy now numbered 431, in Dinky Toys yellow box.

And Guy 433 in yellow box, mine for 59 years, at little worse for wear.

My 'collection improvement policy' of replacing poorer models by better ones includes finding (correct) boxes for unboxed examples. The dark green version was unboxed up to now. The other day I happened to find a matching nice green paper covered box. Mind you, the inner cardboard flaps are fixed to the sides by staples. One flap, however, is not (the box kept togetjer there by the green paper only), in order to prevent the cab's roof from scratching and rubbing. So this is the only correct way to keep it inside its box. The red one was provided with a box right from the start, an acquisition of last June.
