-073 Land Rover, Horse Box and Horse (1960-67)

This land Rover is fitted with treaded tyres but the spare wheel is smooth.

This set can be found with :

• All smooth grey wheels
• All treaded grey wheels
• All treaded black wheels

any mix of the three types of wheels.

The loading deck of the horse box can be black or light green.

Although the Land Rover and the horse box have been given reference numbers 074 and 075 respectively, it is doubtfull that they have been sold separately. Has any one seen an individual box for each of these models.

Jacques.

Thanks Jacques. I had wondered about whether the Land Rover came with grey treaded wheels as I have been looking for some time (albeit yours has a smooth one on the bonnet). I do have a horse trailer with treaded grey wheels. Has the window unit fallen down on your one? Where have all the 'new' Dublo bases come from on eBay? Original tools? Much heavier gauge metal used in the new ones. I thought that the Dublo series where contracted out by Meccano so maybe the dies still exist?

Hello Ron,

The set above with grey wheels is not mine. Mine has the black treaded wheels. The windows have probably fallen down, the way it is fitted is not safe and may be subject to aging, overheating or a pressure applied. Also the windows may have not been fitted properly.

I have no information that Dublos were subcontracted and this is a subject to be investigated if your information can be trusted. This is a new feld of reseach.

I have been looking for these base plates on eBay but I can find only two which do not seem to be new. They are sold by rcs_toy_world1. Are they those that you mention ?

Here are some of the bases I have bought on eBay a while ago (can't recall from who). They are for the AEC tanker (fitted with wheels - crimped axles so not original), Land Rover, Smiths Horse trailer, Royal Mail van and Commer (van). There are several Royal Mail (11x) van and Land Rover bases. They look as though they have been made from the original tools as they all have printing pressed into the metal. Unfortunately the metal used is too heavy.

Ron,

Thank you for showing these pictures.

The base for the AEC tanker is definitely wrong as the axles are below the base plate instead of above.

It is a pity that you did not get in touch with the eBay seller when these were for sale.

Jacques.
