-247 Proposed double deck tram car

In the october 2022 issue of the Journal there is an article about the wooden mock-up of this proposed but not issued tram car.

The project went as far as drawing the plans. At least one has been preserved, the job n° 50247 assembly drawing. To draw this plan several parts drawings must have also been made. Where are they. I have a small scan of the assembly drawing but the date is not readable. I will certainly welcome a large scan of this drawing for the Encyclopaedia. The assembly drawing number being 50247, the catalogue number would have been 247.

Is there a misprint in the article ? The mock-up could not be misplaced between 1975 and 2020 because I photographed it in 2006 during the DTCA AGM at the Midland Hotel in Derby. Then the troley pole was still there. Please do not ask me who owned it at the time, I am very bad at remembering names.

It is very unlikely that there were two mock-ups for the same model, I do not know any such case. There are two cases were two mock-ups were made for the same model but they were at different scales. The models were French Dinky Toys :

# 50 - grue Salev A wooden mock-up at 1/38 and a brass one at 1/48 but the production model was at 1/43.

# 51 - Auto balayeuse K.M.V. this reference number had been given to this project but it has not been used because of the re-numbering. However a brass mock-up has been made at 1:60. It has probably been found too small compared to other Dinky Toys and the project 51 was droped. A second mock-up has been made at 1/50 in wood and this one has been taken for the production with the reference 596. Both these mock-ups are visible in the Encyclopaedia.

Hi Jacques, this mock-up was displayed on 10 October 2007 at our first AGM in Derby. It was in the nice Dinky Toys display case of Nelson Twells who most probably owned it. The trolley pole was still present indeed. It's a shame that it got lost after having been preserved for so many years. It must have landed in the wrong, incompetent hands. My photo below. Kind regards, Jan

P.S.: What is the source of the reference number 237 for this proposed model?

Hello Jan,

The source for the reference number 257 is the assembly drawing n° 50 257
