I recently acquired an example of the scarce version of the Bedford Flat Truck with towing hook. Not in pristine condition, but certainly acceptable, and the first one I've seen. The towing hook was obviously a late addition (note the treaded wheels), but I assume that there would have been an intention to produce a trailer of some kind to make the addition worthwhile - unless it was the plan to use a Dinky Toy 429. There were two trailers in the Dublo range at the time, but the trailer for the Lansing Bagnall tractor was obviously too small for a lorry of this size, and the Horse Box trailer does not couple happily with this truck. Is there any evidence of when the hook was added, and have any examples been seen with smooth grey, or treaded black, wheels?
I have not yet seen one with smooth grey, or black treaded wheels. The towing hook has been
added to the drawing on 28 09 1959 a few months before this model was discontinued and
certainly too late for the smooth grey wheels.
So the question remains, were there any with black wheels ?
Where is the assembly drawing 14 301 ?
