I wonder if there will be a 100th anniversary exhibition in 2034?

Just goes to show, they weren't cheap were they? funny how I look at that picture and think 7/6! That's nearly ten bob!

Jan--
That is a wonderful scene of fire trucks, and a great way to show off all those variations...nicely done!
Did you make that building or is it one that you found? It works great for that display.

This is a very occasional display I did many years ago for the photo. It's a Dutch factory-made garage (with DAF-logo at the left side) which I bought on a flee-market for (in present currency) 1 euro. I often use it as a stand whenever I have a stall at a swap meet, and people always want to buy it, but I like it too much too sell it. But I never used it as a kind of permanent display for my fire engines.

Talking about displays for the fire engines, I can show you two other photo specials, the first one (on top) by Dave Busfield, made at the 75-anniversary exhibition in Derby (2009), the second one (below) shows the present regular display, in pairs per shelf, chronologically top-down 1952 >> 1970.

Dinky Toys for Sale

Jan--Is that at a swap meet for toy sales?? Many years ago there used to be a nice toy swap meet pretty close to where I live in S. Calif., but it stopped a long time ago, and I have not heard of any others close by. Wish there were...they are usually fun to go to.

That's correct Terry, I took the photo some years ago at the Amsterdam AMC meet. It moved to Hoofddorp recently. This dealer with stunning stock of mint/boxed Dinky Toys is always present, at least in Houten. The models he sells are of extremely high quality (as is their price level). Very, very occasionally I bought a Dinky item from him.

Another photography special (no photoshopping whatsoever):

Sabena Helicoptère Sikorsky S.58 flying over 1960s Amsterdam.

Is this in your house Jan or was it at Derby?

Hi Dave, no, neither of them. It was an exhibit I was allowed to display on the annual big Dutch RAI Autoshow in Amsterdam, in 2007.
I found it back the other day, browsing in loads of older photos.

My subject was (translated):

"Mini-mobility half a century ago: Dinky Toys 1957-2007".

Another one then of the same occasion:

Kind regards, Jan

The top shelf of the 1957-2007 Dinky display.

OK, I must admit, with the nasty reflection the photo has no true 'photography special' quality, but just for completeness sake!

OK, What have we got there?
Fire Engine, Bedford CA and Beetle are obvious, I think I see a Ford Fordor at the top of the ramp, and a Morris Oxford and Hudson Sedan at the bottom, and.............oh no! Isn't that an OXO Trojan in the box?

Storing Dinky Toys

Hi all, it may be apparent that I have a great joy and satisfaction in making nice and special photographs of Dinky Toys (and other matters, of course).
Nowadays it is so easy to have them nicely laid out and printed in a digitally produced photoalbum or a calendar. I told the story of my 2009 'My Dinky Toys World' album in the October 2010 issue of The Journal. Subsequently I made a Dinky Toys calendar for 2011. The time was lacking to make one for 2012, so you may like to have a view of the one I made for 2011. Dinky Toys photography specials!

Kind regards, Jan

I can vouch for the quality of Jan's 2011 Calender - it is absolutely superb. I was one of the very happy receipients of this publication.
Inspired by Jan's efforts I mad an A3 Dinky calender for 2012 and I will peobably be making on for 2013.

A sample image from the February page from mine is shown below.

Jan--
That calendar was just beautiful and so well done....I love the variety of subjects that you used, instead of just one "theme".....very nice!
And Dave, now that you have given us a "tease" of yours, how about the rest of the images? Those are a delight to see and thanks to you both for posting.....
