Hi Al,
What does it mean: The website migration has now been completed and the site is open for your postings again.
Apparently something has changed. If I now download pictures and make a description in the file, the description will not be visible under the picture as before. There is also no rule under the photo visible to download the photo. I find this very disturbing. Can you change this?
Kind Regards, Jan Oldenhuis, 25 July 2018
Hello Jan,
Major work with the website has been happening this week. Physically, the website lived on (was "hosted" on) a computer in a datacentre somewhere in America. From today it now lives on a computer in a datacentre somewhere in Germany. The company that provided the previous hosting basically threw in the commercial towel and the site was forced to "migrate" to its new home on the web.
This effort was expected to create a few technical trailing leads. The download link and picture caption seems to be one of them. I will investigate for a fix. I notice captions are still shown when the mouse hovers over the picture.
On the plus side, I got an email comment notification about your reply. Now if that long standing bugbear has been resolved that will be a good thing. If it continues to work, forumers will be getting email alerts about new comments on topics they are watching as soon as they get posted.
Hi Al
I have noticed that the photos in the contributions can be downloaded in large format again by the members and the caption is mentioned again with the downloaded photos. Thank you for this improvement.
Kind regards, Jan Oldenhuis, 14 August 2018.
Thanks, Jan. There were some small outstanding technical glitches to work out with the new host due to the slightly different way things are set up.
The download link on the lightbox gallery is only available for registered users while they are logged in. Inline images can be right-click saved. Tick the box "notify me when new comments are posted" for any topics that you want to follow and receive an email when a new comment is made.
best regards, al
Al, as always, your efforts are very much appreciated! Kind regards, Jan W
Hello Al,
Many thanks for all your efforts. Visitors will be very pleased with this renewed site.
Regards John.
Thanks Jan and John, This new host seems very suitable for the website. Now that the physical services are located in Europe, the response times seem a little better. I haven't benchmarked this - it just feels slightly quicker to me. Also the defective messaging system has cured itself after the move so everybody should be getting the new comment emails for topics to which they are subscribed.
Well done Al!
