I think you are quite right, and they probably did learn from that. You would have thought that the French could have come up with something easier to use and better than an elastic cord. It is probably similar to the one which holds the propeller in place on the Mighty Antar Low Loader with Propeller; it is black, thin, and slightly elastic.
