Just won this one.........waiting for the postman........

Hi all,

Won this last night, hoping it's real, if it is it fills a major gap in my collection, and I don't care at all if it's a bit battered!

Hi Dave,
Been on my wants list since I actually sat down to write one in 1990, so not too bad...........
Funny but in the last 12 months I've picked up the Sweeteners tanker, and now this one that have been sitting on my list for over two decades.
Wonders of the internet I suppose, all those years ago if it wasn't at a Toyfair there was very little chance of me getting one.

Hi Chris

I think this is one of the lovely aspects of collecting, you will eventually find the one you want, sometimes after a long wait.

I totally agree about the internet, swapmeets were all we had when I started collecting but now the whole world is available.

The problem is that you can spend your money much quicker!!!!!!!

If it weren't for the internet, I would only have about 1/2 of my Dinky collection. I live in California, and there are very few toys fairs, and virtually no shops selling vintage toys. I often wish I could come and travel to Britain for 6 months and sample some of your toy fairs and shops that we keep hearing about!

Chris, and others, see eBay item number 400493092288.

A little less battered, but

Jan---That is crazy....they must be pretty rare. That one is only maybe "good" or "fair"...can't imagine what a mint one would go for!

Hi Richard,

Hi Chris.
Meanwhile, there is a mistake : the marriage between the Ford and the tilt !
This Ford ref. 25lc was sold without tilt.
The green tilt goes with the Ford ref.25ja which has a moulded hook.
Mine has a metallic one.
Cheers

Greetings all!

I recently won this through a seller in Germany on eBay, costing about 50% less than had I won it through Vectis when two red hub Terex boxed models were sold through them over the past two years. Hopefully it will soon arrive in my post office box and will be waiting for me on my return to Australia!

Now all I need to find, and cheaply, is an example with the military green hubs, and my Euclid/Terex set will be complete! (But do not tell the wife!! :( )

Hi Bruce, that looks really nice. Were you able to use your normal login e-bay details or do you have to have a specific account with e-bay Germany.

Thanks Chris and Dave,

Dave, I just use my normal eBay account, which allows me to bid on anything on any of eBay's various sites. My eBay search covers anything Dinky and I exclude words such as Atlas (for sure!!), repro, reproduction, copy, etc, which then reduces the quantity to just genuine Dinky Toys that interest me. Even then, the total number of Dinky Toys on the various sites still comes to over 6,000, with several hundred being listed each day. I do not bother going through all those, but then from the list, I then search out particular models, such as 965 in this case.

I must confess I was somewhat stunned with the final price which was Euro216.00, very pleasing, plus of course postage, and most importantly, no buyers premium! Now to wait for its arrival and see if the model is worth every cent of those Euros!

Kind regards

Hi Dave, I remember you telling to have no, or limited, access to some other country's eBay, but I have no restrictions at all.
Hi Bruce, and what about denials like: no Atlas, no repro, not played with, etc.?
Kind regards, Jan

Jan

I use the refined search tools available through eBay, otherwise I would receive notification for over 12,000 Dinky related models, which includes reproduction boxes (literally 100s of them which are of no interest to me) Atlas, (I am not interested in these Chinese copies), repro (many sellers only use that terminology for reproduction, Matchbox (I am no longer interested in Matchbox Dinky), DY, as that includes the latter. In other words I have eBay eliminate anything that is of no interest. I then use a further search tool that includes words such as mint, near mint, excellent, original box, etc, thus refining my search even further. Of course my search engine may miss something if for instance a seller includes the words, "original box not a reproduction", but I then pick that up when eBay does the next search for "original box". I then target from what eBay sends by requesting a search for particular models 965, 905, 501, 930, 102, 140a, 196, 182, 156, etc, etc. Without utilizing eBay's own search engine, I literally save hours and hours of scrolling through hundreds and hundreds of entries.

eBay was for me a secondary tool for the past 8 years although between 1993 and 2007 I used eBay plus traditional auction houses, as I have concentrated my purchases since 2007 on two auction houses, mainly through these posting the items themselves and not farming mailing out to a third party. The auction houses are Wallis & Wallis and Vectis. I discontinued my association with the latter as from last year when my loyalty of over 20 years and over 250 lots won was not considered with a Mobilgas tanker I had won that had two thirds of its tank tabs broken off that was not included in the description and the condition of the lot that was over stated. For Vectis, my absence has been a reduction in countless auctions when my participation would have resulted in a higher final price and thus a greater financial return for that company, even if I did not win that lot. (Based on the previous twelve months, both with lots I won and those not, this in effect has meant a reduction in their income of a conservative figure of about

Hello Jan

I have just corrected my last post. For some reason, perhaps the heat in Manila, I originally wrote "Jacques" as my introduction when in fact that post should have been addressed to you! My apologies - I do not know what I was thinking!

Crikey Jan, all those glasses for just the two of you???!!!   I suppose filling them with those two bottles saves having to refill your glass!

Anyhow, back to the subject in hand.

Together with the 965 with red hubs posted earlier, I am also waiting the arrival of my 959 Foden Dump Truck with Bulldozer Blade from the same seller in Germany. He also had the less common version with red hubs, and I was in a quandary as to what to do - bid on both, or be satisfied with just the 965 and 959 with yellow hubs? As the auctions ended in the wee hours of the morning, and my main interest was with the Terex, I put all my eggs in that basket through an online bidding site, and placed an "interest only" bid on the 959. I was quite surprised to see that I had won both the 965 and 959 with yellow hubs - and the red hub version went for just a little more than what I had paid for the 959! That is why I am singing praises about eBay! (Or at least until I have both models in my hands!)

Returning to the photograph with your last post Jan - what I find unbelievable is that there is not a single Dinky Toy in sight anywhere!!

Kind regards

Bruce (150)
