35b Estrela Racing Car

In the late fifties apparantly Dinky Toys sold a mould of the
35b Racing Car to the Brazilian toy manufacturer Estrela.

Estrela changed the casting at the nose of the model and replaced the lettering underneath by Estrela. That is the only
text on the model. I was very fortunate to be able to buy one from a DTCA member who found this model locally. He has seen only one more which was in a poor state. The model shown has original paint and wheels. As I only have a pre war Dinky Toys 35b as part of the Small Motor Cars set, I have used it to picture the English family together with this distant Brazilian relative. The information above is all I know, I do not know when the actual production of the Estrela started or ended.

Perhaps someone else knows more about this rarity.

I have been able to get a little more information about this model.

The M.G. R. called "carro de corrida" was part of a series of models called "Carros de Metal".

The picture above is from page 79 of the 1950 - 51 Estrela catalogue, it shows that the M.G. was available in two sizes. The picture is of the Dinky Toys model with the two caps on the bonnet.

In the same product line were :

1601 Motocicleta which is similar to the 37A civilian motorcyclist
1602 Motocicleta com Sidecar which is similar to the 43B R.A.C. motorcycle patrol
1604 Ford 1950 which is similar to the 139a Ford Fordor Sedan
