re-paint

Hi Everybody

I’m intending having a go at repainting an old Dinky military vehicle, and was seeking some advice on best practice:

Q1. Is there a Dinky “standard” military green, if so who manufactures it, what is its “official” colour name/code number…. Or are all military greens the same?

Q2. Is it better to use acrylic paint, or enamel paint?

Q3. If acrylic paint is used, is it better to use spray paint, or use a brush?

Q4. If enamel paint is used, is there a preferred brand? Humbrol? Revel?

Q5. Can anyone recommend any publication/ tutorial video etc that may prove useful

Any advice would be much appreciated

Regards

Chris

Hello Chris,

Welcome to the club. Most discussions here are about early Dinky Toys, their history, their variations, the whys, the hows etc... but not about restorations and I doubt that the members here can help you. May I sugest that you try this other forum (https://www.planetdiecast.com/) which is run by sympathetic restoring guys.

Kind regards.

Jacques

Steve Flowers Model Supplies of Leicester markets a range of colour-matched paints for Dinky restorations, including "Army" green, which can be brushed but will give a better finish if sprayed. There are plenty of restoration videos on Youtube to help.

I use Cellulose applied via airbrush suitably thinned. The 'correct' colour is

BS381C Middle Bronze Green (223)
