I have been asked by a correspondent whether the 352 Ed Straker's car was produced in Red and if so is there any documentary evidence for it.
I have looked through the literature and this is listed in the Great Book of Dinky Toys and Ramsay as being available in Red. Force quotes it as Red? so some doubt there. Some of the artwork produced for this vehicle seems to show it in red so perhaps where the thought of a red version came from.
I looked though Vectis auctions and there are no examples of red 352s coming up for auction, only gold or yellow examples.

If anyone has images of the red version please post them here.
There is one restored in Red on eBay right now:

Meccano tested the possibility to make plastic Dinky Toys in their existing zamac dies. The test was succesfull but the idea was dropped as the models were too light and gave an impression of poor quality.
Two models of Ed Stakers car are known in plastic.
• dark green body, blue interior, cast hubs
• red body, light grey interior plastic Speedwheels.
One model is also known in chrome with cast hubs.
Ramsay (10th edition) lists "red body, silver trim".
Ed. Force lists "3. Red body ? other details.".
Peter Harrington : "a) Gold plated b) Red c) Yellow".
The Dinky Encyclopaedia states : "May have been produced with red body, ??? interior, ??? engine covers. This remains to be confirmed."
I think that the red plastic pilot lot model must have been mistaken for a production model by one of the book writers and that the others copied the mistake.
I would welcome a picture of the brown promotional issue and details for the Encyclopaedia as well as any evidence for a possible red issue. Beware of repaints.
