--38e Triumph Dolomite Roadster (not issued)

Hi all,
I received the DTCA Dolomite today (celebrating the Binns Road factory 1914- 2014). A very nice model, here together with the other Dolomites: the Matchbox Dinky, The Dinky Golden Jubilee (1933-1983) and the Odgi (the DTCA to the right).

Hi there,
Lovely model, it's such a shame it wasn't ever put into production originally.

That was a very car for Dinky not too make..... wonder what the decision points were against it?

The Dolomite was not issued, probably because the prototype was out of production before Meccano could issue the model.

It appears that Dinky had its difficulties with releasing the announced 38 and 39 series as because of the start if World War 2. As we all now know, only a few of the 38 sports cars made it to the shops before production and distribution was suspended due to the War. Thank you for clarifying that Triumph had discontinued the Dolomite. I was unaware of that and that makes sense why the model was replaced post-war. The 39 series had it's troubles, too. Apparently, the 39 series was to have included a Hupmobile. That was an unfortunate choice to replicate in the Dinky US car series. Hupmobile struggled during the 1930s and barely made it to 1940 before collapsing all together. To make matters worse, the model Dinky replicated was no longer being produced after 1938. At that point Hupmobile was attempting to adapt the former Cord 810 body dies as the final Hupmobile. The 39 series was also to include a taxi built on a Ford chassis. That was a bad choice too because the Dinky taxi mock-up was based on a late 1930s models so it would have looked obsolete if it had made it to market. Dinky would have needed to base the taxi on the 1942 Ford styling to have been competitive post-war.
