-887 Tracteur Unic Esterel et semi-remorque citerne 'N.W.M.' [Unic Esterel Articulated Tanker 'N.W.M.']

This is a code 3 promotional model over painted on the ref. 887 Dinky Supertoys "Air B.P.".

In his last book, Roulet states (copied on the Vectis web site) that NWM is or was a Dutch civil engineering company but a search on the web shows that NWM is an international bulk transport firm.

Can our Dutch friends bring some light and more information on this subject ?

What is the translation of : "Nederlansche Weg Maatchappij" ?

Where was the company based ?

Is the company still in business ?

etc...

The transport company N.W.M. was established in the Netherlands on the adress: J.A. v Seumerenlaan 5, 1422 XS Uithoorn.

This company no longer exists and has been adopted by other tranport companies. Much pictures of tank cars from NWM are to find at internet including your photo of the Mercedes with number T184.

I am not an insider in the tank transport world, but in the area where I live now, in the neighbourhood of Rotterdam Europoort with his chemical industry and oil refineries are several tank transport companys.

I don't know the meaning of the abbreviation NWM.

With the help of your first move, Jan, I found 'Nederlandse Wegtanker Maatschappij', so: Dutch Road Tanker Company.

Kind regards, Jan W

Through the help of Jan Werner you come a lot further.

If you go on the internet searching for "Chemische Industrie Uithoorn" you get in English an explanation about this company, abbreviated "CINDU". The explanation about the company "NWM" is under construction.

The NWM was part of the "CINDU" by transporting mainly tar products of this chemical company.

Kind regards, Jan O

Thank you all for your research although we still do not know the exact meaning of NWM.

I have just found that CINDU has been taken over by Koppers the world leader in tar distilling.

Jacques I just found this about the pensions of Cindu on internet via de link: http://www.pensioenfondscindu.nl/historie

Translated in English:

Stichting Pensioenfonds Cindu International was originally founded on December 30, 1950.

The fund in the past was linked to former group Cindu Key & Kramer N.V. the group company Key & Kramer Maassluis was divested in the past and pensions of NWM N.V. (Dutch Wegtanker Company) were transferred to the pension fund transportation.

Ultimately, now Uithoornse companies Koppers Netherlands B.V. (Formerly Cindu Chemicals BV) and Resinall Rütgers Resins B.V. (Formerly Nevcin B.V., later Neville Chemical Europe BV) have joined the pension fund. The employees of these companies still build up a pension with the fund.

When you look at the Dutch text we do know now that the meaning of NWM is "Nederlandse Wegtanker Maatschappij".

Jan,

This is great, so now we have the official name. But what is a Wegtanker I am afraid that my Dutch is non existant. I try it some times in Jan Werner's catalog but I am hardly succesfull.

The translation of the Dutch word "Wegtanker" is "Road Tanker" in English as Jan Werner also translated.

The meaning of this "Wegtanker" is a tank truck for bulk transportation of tar products. As far as I know: The products transported by these "Wegtanker" tank cars were used for road construction. I think like products as asphalt and similar products.

In the past I saw these "Road tankers"  of NWM very often. I did not notice if they still are there.

Thank you everybody for your research on this subject. I do not think that we will go much further.
